Writing a book
Ways to start, the stages and approval gates, the story bible, revisions, and background writing.
Ways to start a book
Opening a book is always free. The first charge happens when something is asked to be written.
- From a pitch. Describe the book in one sentence — a calm guide to index investing for people who hate spreadsheets — and the whole setup is drafted for your review. Nothing further happens until you approve it.
- From saved research. The whole setup arrives filled in from the concept — title, reader, promise, argument, objections, voice, and the listing metadata. Each title you kept is its own book.
- From a talk or video. Paste a YouTube link or a podcast transcript. The captions are fetched and read into a book plan as two separate, separately priced steps.
- From a manuscript you already have. Paste or upload chapters. Nothing you brought is ever regenerated or charged.
- From scratch. The wizard asks everything.
Stages and gates
A book is written in order: blueprint → outline → chapter briefs → chapters.
By default the writer stops after the outline and again after the briefs, and emails you to look. You can approve, ask for another attempt (charged again — the first attempt cannot be un-written, and the button says so), or pause. Switch autopilot on and it writes straight through.
Books have 10 chapters by default and up to 50; set the number before the outline is written. Chapters are written one at a time, each briefed from what the previous ones established, so a whole book is many minutes of background work. The page tells you what it is doing, and you can leave it running.
If a chapter has no brief
A chapter cannot be written without a brief, so a book missing one stops and says so. Two ways on, both on the book's page: Write the missing briefs hands the gaps to the model at the usual price and leaves the briefs already written alone, or you can write one yourself in the chapter list — that costs nothing, and your words win on your own book.
The story bible
As chapters are written, the bible accumulates the names, facts and decisions they establish. Anything you add or edit there is final: later chapters respect it and never overwrite it. It is the reason chapter twelve remembers what chapter three decided.
Revising a chapter
Any chapter can be sent back with instructions — shorter, more examples, the sister's name is Ama — and rewritten. Each attempt is charged at the price shown.
Your monthly book limit
The Starter tier writes up to three books a month. Unlimited removes the limit. See Plans and upgrades.
Background writing — Auto-Pilot Publishing
With the Auto-Pilot Publishing upgrade, Monthly, on its own turns one idea into a planned series. You describe the niche and say how many books (up to twenty, or four on Auto-Pilot Lite); the app plans that many distinct topics, then writes them one book a month, each on autopilot end to end. You are emailed when a book is ready, listing kit included.
Each finished book draws its own cover as it lands, when your account includes the Cover Design Suite — so an Auto-Pilot book arrives with its manuscript, its listing kit and its cover already made, and the KDP extension can fill Amazon's forms without you assembling anything. See Publishing.
If credits run out mid-series it pauses and emails you once — not every hour — and picks up where it left off after a top-up. Cancelling keeps every book already written.
When a book is finished
It gets its KDP listing kit written automatically (see Publishing files) and a short daily email for fourteen days inviting you to promote it. Making any promotion piece, or muting the book, ends those emails.
